Ready to Take the Leap

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in.” ~ Rachel Carson

Dear Families and Friends,

The Leaps of Imagination team is all set to go! And we’re heading to Thomaston Grammar School this week for our first “gig’ of the season. Young artists will be doing some close looking. Right there in their school yard, they’ll be checking out what they may have missed before. It’s a spectacular time of year for investigating nature. Can you imagine what they will see?

The team, Susan Beebe, Alexis Iammarino, Dee Peppe, and I will be (outdoors) on site, working with fourth graders in small cohorts. Each child will have a journal for observational drawing and will keep a record of what they’ve explored.

Two of our artists, Avis Turner and Cindy McGuirl, have been working behind the scenes to create individual art satchels for the children. Each one will be packed with special pens, colored pencils, a journal, and a magnifier. Fourth graders will be using these materials during our experience together and will take them home for more art making when the program is over. Thank you, Avis and Cindy!

Be sure to look for our weekly Blog post on Fridays, when you’ll hear from the children about what they have discovered and have a lens through which to view their artwork.

With all that’s going on in our world, we’ll be making time for kids to pause and focus on the natural beauty around them – in the moment.

With anticipation and delight, Nancy, Susan, Alexis, Dee, Cindy, and Avis
